The approach to runway 19L at Charles de Gaulle. I’d call that minimum separation.

That jet exhaust is the most wash anyone saw in France that day.

Zing!

Odd thing about CDG: going over the motorway as your plane taxis in.

Looks to me like the Google earth photography plane matched the landing speed of that jet, like a car following the Google maps-mobile

The GE imagery is taken by a satellite, and the satellite takes photos of the earth in long strips which are then stitched together. It just so happened that the scanning and the plane matched up in such a way that the plane was caught in the scan each time. Note how at the left only part of the plane is captured as it enters the scan section.

It’s similar to what happens when you take a digital photograph. Unlike with an old film camera, which catches everything when the shutter opens and closes, digital cameras take photos as they scan across the frame (very quickly). The results can be interesting, such as when you try to film a prop with a GoPro or a digital video camera.

Or like this photo, where the boy’s eyes are closed on the left, but opened in the reflection. That’s because the camera scanned across the scene as the boy blinked.

Nice. I didn’t realize they moved up to satellite. I remember when the “satellite view” first premiered it was basically from overflights. That or I have been lied to. Which is possible.

I have an 8th grade boy who hasn’t seen any wash and my room stinks for two hours after he departs. English is not his first language and I do not speak any of his other languages, so I am trying to figure out how to take this up with him. I mean, it’s enough to make you choke.

That video is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while.
